China’s advanced technology poses a significant threat to US national security, according to Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has used technology to oppress its own citizens and erase its own history, like the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989. The CCP has also stolen American intellectual property and used it to undermine our national security. That’s why Green introduced the China Technology Transfer Control Act, which seeks to impose new limits on US technology exports to China.
The bill’s export restrictions on technology related to AI, robotics, biotech, computing, and internet-related services would be imposed when it would aid China’s military, harm US national security, or allow China to carry out violations of human rights or religious liberties against its own people. Green warns that AI poses a particular threat, and we must proceed with caution when implementing advanced technological solutions into our nation’s critical infrastructure.
The Biden administration is also considering limits on tech exports to China related to AI, semiconductors, and quantum computing. It’s time to take action to protect US national security and prevent China from using advanced systems against its own population.
