Fox News reporter Peter Doocy grilled National Security Council spokesman John Kirby during a press conference on the Afghanistan withdrawal. Doocy was not satisfied with the administration’s answers on the Afghanistan withdrawal and wanted to know why the administration was proud of the way the mission was conducted.
Doocy questioned Kirby on the fact that people were being killed, children were dying, and people were hanging off of Air Force jets as they were leaving.
He asked how the administration could be proud of the way the mission was conducted, to which Kirby replied that they were proud of the fact that they were able to get more than 124,000 people safely out of Afghanistan.
Kirby claimed that the after-action reviews are being reviewed by members of Congress and that the administration is aware that things could have gone better.
Doocy was not satisfied with Kirby’s answer, leading Kirby to list the accomplishments of the mission. Kirby stated that the evacuation was not perfect, but a lot of things went right.
