Newly announced campaign co-chair for President Biden’s reelection campaign, Democratic Delaware Sen. Chris Coons, had some help with his fundraising efforts for his successful 2010 Senate bid. According to emails from Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop, Hunter served as an outside adviser to Coons and used his network of in-state and out-of-state business associates to contribute to Coons’ campaign.
Coons has been one of Biden’s most influential global emissaries for many years, and the relationship between the two families has come under scrutiny in recent years. Hunter Biden and Eric Schwerin, the then-president of his since-dissolved investment fund Rosemont Seneca Partners, were in close contact with Coons and his campaign finance director Tracey Buckman, helping with fundraising efforts.
In June 2010, Coons met with Hunter and Schwerin just weeks before Hunter started hosting fundraising events for the future senator. Coons thanked Hunter for their meeting earlier in the week and said, “I’m grateful for your help!” Buckman also reached out to Hunter and Schwerin less than two weeks after Coons’ meeting, thanking them for their support and interest in helping Coons win his Senate race.
Doyle, who formerly served as a senior adviser to then-Sen. Joe Biden and the national finance director of Biden’s unsuccessful presidential run in 2008, also donated $500 to Coons on July 29. Doyle, who was a registered Serbian foreign agent months earlier, was coordinating the scheduling of an investment meeting with Serbia’s president and Serbian “high net worth individuals” in email exchanges with Hunter Biden and the Serbian Ambassador to the United States.
As one of President Biden’s top campaign surrogates, Coons will likely face questions about his relationship with Hunter and the extent of Hunter’s involvement in his campaign fundraising efforts. It’s clear that the Biden family’s corrupt practices extend beyond just Hunter’s dealings in Ukraine and China and into their own political campaigns.
