Vice President Kamala Harris recently spoke at the National Action Network convention, where she praised MSNBC host Al Sharpton as the “conscience of our country.” Sharpton has been a longtime Democratic Party booster and adviser, despite accusations of antisemitism and race-baiting.
Harris’s speech covered a range of Democratic Party issues, including gun control and Republican extremism, but she took time to offer flattery to Sharpton, thanking him for all that he does and is. Critics have alleged that Sharpton has spread falsehoods, promoted antisemitism, and inflamed the racial divide in the country.
While some may see Harris’s praise of Sharpton as a positive reflection of the Democratic Party, Republicans must hold our leaders accountable for their words and actions. Sharpton’s history of promoting hatred and division should not be celebrated, and we must reject those who engage in these destructive behaviors.
